GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina University held a ribbon-cutting ceremony this afternoon to mark the official opening of its new Psychology Clinic building. The facility is located at 200 E. 1st St. in Greenville, providing a dedicated space for mental health services and training.
The new clinic replaces older, outdated facilities and is designed to offer expanded services to the community. It will serve as a training ground for graduate students in clinical psychology, allowing them to gain hands-on experience under licensed supervisors. The building features modern therapy rooms, observation areas, and advanced technology for research and treatment.
University officials highlighted the growing need for accessible mental health care in the region. The clinic aims to fill that gap by offering low-cost or sliding-scale services to local residents. Services will include individual therapy, family counseling, and psychological assessments.
The project has been in development for several years, with funding from state appropriations and university resources. Faculty and students expressed excitement about the new space, noting that it will improve both patient care and educational outcomes. The clinic is expected to see its first patients in the coming weeks.
