When AI becomes a tool for psychological manipulation: A new challenge for digital security.

When AI becomes a tool for psychological manipulation: A new challenge for digital security.

Artificial intelligence is reshaping how criminals target and control their victims. What once required a skilled con artist can now be automated, scaled, and disguised as a friendly voice or a familiar face. Scammers use AI to mimic relatives, impersonate police officers, and even stage fake online kidnappings, complete with generated audio and video that look and sound real. The result is a form of psychological pressure that feels immediate and personal, leaving victims with little time to question what they see or hear.

For Vietnam, the problem goes beyond stopping individual fraud cases. The deeper risk is the erosion of trust in digital systems. If people can no longer tell a real call from a cloned one, or a genuine message from a fabricated one, the foundation of online safety starts to crack. Resolution 57 frames this as part of the broader digital transformation challenge, where citizens need both protection and the ability to verify what is true. Fighting AI driven manipulation means strengthening media literacy, building better detection tools, and ensuring that the right to make informed decisions is not quietly taken away by technology that lies too well.
