IRON MOUNTAIN - Two doctoral candidates have successfully finished their year-long psychology training at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center. Zachary Bertram and Caroline Rogers were recognized for completing their internships, which began in July 2025 and concluded on July 10, 2026.
The Iron Mountain facility holds accreditation with the American Psychological Association, allowing it to host such training programs. During their internship, Bertram and Rogers worked directly with veterans, providing mental health services under the supervision of licensed psychologists. Their training covered a range of clinical duties, including assessment, diagnosis, and therapy.
Officials at the medical center highlighted the importance of the program in addressing the mental health needs of the veteran population. The internship is designed to prepare future psychologists for careers in clinical settings, particularly within the VA system. Both graduates are now eligible to continue their professional development and pursue licensure in their respective states. The medical center expressed pride in their achievements and noted the ongoing need for skilled mental health professionals in rural healthcare.
