A growing number of young people are setting aside chat apps in favor of paper, envelopes, and stamps. What began as a small trend on social media has turned into a genuine hobby for many in Gen Z, who say the slower pace of letter writing offers a welcome break from constant notifications.
The appeal goes beyond simple nostalgia. Experts note that handwriting a letter forces the sender to slow down, reflect, and commit thoughts to paper in a way that quick texts rarely allow. The physical object also carries weight: a wax seal, careful calligraphy, or a pressed flower inside an envelope becomes a keepsake that a digital message can never match.
Stationery shops report rising demand for decorative paper, sealing wax, and fountain pens, with younger customers driving much of the growth. Some enthusiasts have formed pen pal groups, exchanging addresses and trading letters across cities and countries.
Psychologists suggest the trend reflects a broader desire for meaningful connection and a retreat from the pressure of instant replies. For many participants, the wait itself is part of the pleasure, turning an ordinary mailbox into something worth checking every day.
